150 bronze statues depict gods like Anubis, Osiris, and Isis, a testament to ancient Egyptian spirituality.

 The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities recently made an exciting discovery in Saqqara, located south of Giza City. They found a large cache consisting of 150 bronze statues and 250 wooden coffins dating back to the late era. This is considered the first and biggest find in the area.

The statues, which were discovered in the cemetery of the sacred animals known as Pobastians, vary in size and depict several ancient Egyptian deities such as Anubis, God Amun Ra, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum, Bastet, and Hathor.

In addition to the bronze statues and wooden coffins, the archaeological team also found some bronze utensils linked to the rituals of the goddess Isis, such as salsals. They also uncovered a bronze statue of Imhotep, but unfortunately, the head was missing.

Imhotep, who lived in the third millennium BC, was the mastermind behind the construction of the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which is considered one of the oldest pyramids in ancient Egypt. Later, Imhotep gained immense recognition and was revered as the god of medicine.

Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, shared the objective of the ongoing archaeological mission in the region, which has already completed four seasons of excavations. The primary goal of the mission is to locate the tomb of Imhotep.

The wooden coffins discovered by the archaeological mission date back to approximately 500 BC and are decorated with vibrant colors. These coffins were found closed and contained well-preserved mummies.

According to Reuters, the archaeological team also came across a collection of amulets and wooden statues, as well as cosmetic tools like eyeliner and jewelry.

The archaeological mission also stumbled upon a set of sealed and untouched papyri. These papyri were carefully transferred to the Egyptian Museum in Giza, for further examination and restoration to their original state.

Mostafa Waziri stated that the papyrus discovered by the archaeological team is believed to be around nine meters in length and is likely to contain chapters from the Book of the Dead. The Book of the Dead is a compilation of funerary texts that consist of spells that were used by the ancient Egyptians to help guide the deceased through the underworld.

The Saqqara region, which is home to more than 10 pyramids and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is a treasure mine of ancient artifacts and a sizable cemetery for the ancient Egyptian metropolis of Memphis.

These artifacts will be on exhibit in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which the Egyptian government hopes to open this year following a number of setbacks.
