International Sands Marathon in Egypt 2023: Uniting Sports, Adventure, and Egypt's Cultural Heritage

Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, will witness, next Wednesday, in a Cairo hotel, the activities of the press conference for the launch of the International Sands Marathon 2023 in Fayoum, with wide international participation, taking place for the first time in the history of the Sands Marathon competitions in Egypt, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of the Environment.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, are expected to attend the press conference activities following her return from Climate Week in New York in the presence of a representative of the French Embassy in Cairo and Ayman Haqqi, founder and CEO of The Tri-Factory.

The organization of the Ministries of Environment, Youth, and Sports and Tourism for the World Sand Marathon in the Wadi El Rayan Reserve in Fayoum Governorate, in cooperation with a French company, comes within the interest of the three ministries in tourism activities that are appropriate to the nature of the reserves, in parallel with the research of new green projects within the reserve, the most prominent of which is an open zoo, a safe haven for wild animals. similar to the way serious a shelter would be in Jordan.

For his part, an official source in the Ministry of Environment confirmed that the Sand Marathon is an international race that was organized for the first time in 40 years in Morocco and is being repeated in many countries. This is the Egyptian version under the name of the Sand Race in the Wadi El Rayan Reserve, and it is implemented on the condition that it is respected. All environmental standards and requirements in natural reserves, approximately 120 km deep in the Wadi El Rayyan desert in Fayoum, for four days in the desert.

The responsible source added that the Sand Marathon in Wadi El Rayan Reserve aims to promote Egypt tours in addition to supporting Egypt classic tours. It also aims to achieve international fame for the Wadi El Rayan Reserve and Egypt travel packages. It will be broadcast on international television channels and digital broadcasting platforms. It is also expected that the Wadi El Rayan Sandboarding in Fayoum will be attended by about 300 participants of different nationalities in the first edition of the Sand Marathon in the Wadi El Rayan Reserve on Egypt group tours, and it will be held under the sponsorship of a number of ministries.

“Sandboarding” is a sport practiced on skateboards. It is similar to snowboarding, but it is practiced on sand dunes instead of snowy mountains. There are fans of this sport all throughout the world, although they are concentrated in arid regions and coastal regions with sand dunes.
