Egypt's Tourism Soars: Celebrating World Tourism Day with Remarkable Recovery and Growth
World Tourism Day is a significant occasion celebrated annually on September 27th, both in Egypt and worldwide. This year, Saudi Arabia has the honor of hosting the World Tourism Day festivities, which are orchestrated by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Egypt has organized World Tourism Day celebrations for
several years, but last year the celebrations were in Indonesia. The world
celebrates World Tourism Day on September 27 every year since 1980, as this day
coincides with the anniversary of the adoption of the organization’s statute in
1970.
Siwa witnessed the celebration of World Tourism Day,
which falls on September 27, in the presence of Muhammad Bakr Youssef, head of
the Siwa Center and City, Muhammad Hassan, head of the Siwa Committee in the
Hotel Establishments Chamber, Mahmoud Al-Damiri, director of the Siwa Tourism Promotion Office, workers in the field of
handicrafts and heritage, and a number of Egypt group tours to Siwa and tourists of all
nationalities.
The head of the center and city of Siwa welcomed the
participants in the celebration, stressing the interest of the political
leadership in Siwa Oasis, especially in the tourism sector,
which represents an important economic resource for all segments of Siwa
society, and that the oasis has raised the level of readiness to receive the
winter tourist season, which continues until the end of next April, and that
next October Siwa will witness the holding of the seventh edition of the
Egyptian Dates Festival event.
Amr El-Kady, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Egypt Tour
Promotion, confirmed that the Egypt classic tours are
witnessing an unprecedented recovery, and there has been a noticeable increase June,
July, and August of the current year. It is expected that the number of
tourists taking Egypt Nile Cruise tours will
increase during the winter season, especially after the promotional campaigns.
Which was carried out by the Ministry, represented by the General Authority for
Tourism Promotion, in some countries around the world.
Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said
that the volume of Egypt travel packages
witnessed a major boom during the first six months of this year.
The Minister pointed out that the positive indicators of
the Egypt tour itineraries movement during the first half of
this year confirm a growth in the number of arriving tourists and the number of
Egypt day tours, as well as the regularity and
diversity of the sources of tourism markets exporting this movement, with an
increase of 44% over last year.
He pointed out that this percentage is the highest rate
in the Egypt family tours compared to the first six
months of 2010, which recorded the highest percentage in the inbound tourism
movement at that time.
The World Tourism Organization added that by the end of
July 2023, the number of Cairo day tours from the airport had
reached 84% of the levels before the Corona epidemic, and 700 million tourists
traveled internationally between January and July 2023, an increase of 43% from
what it was in the same months of 2022, and the month was July. It is the
busiest month, with 145 million international passengers registered, or around
20% of the seven-month total. UNWTO data once again demonstrates how strongly
the tourism industry is recovering throughout the world, but as this industry
recovers, it also needs to adapt.
This resurgence in tourism is expected to continue, with an
anticipated rise in the number of tourists taking Egypt Christmas tours and Egypt Easter tours during
the winter season.
It is worth noting that the Secretary-General of the
World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, has confirmed that the World
Tourism Barometer data once again shows how tourism is recovering strongly in
every part of the world.
UNWTO data once again demonstrates how strongly the tourism
industry is recovering throughout the world, but as this industry recovers, it
also needs to adapt to the increasing number of luxury tours in Egypt. This underscores the need to build a more inclusive,
sustainable, and resilient sector and ensure that the recovery goes hand in
hand with... Rethinking the global tourism sector: The Middle East region
recorded the best results in the period from January to July 2023, as the
number of arrivals increased by 20% from pre-pandemic levels, and the region
remains the only area that has so far surpassed 2019 levels.
