Promoting Egypt's Rich Heritage: A Deaf and Hard of Hearing Marathon Boosts Tourism and Inclusion

Egypt has a huge number of world monuments, in addition to its charming nature and wonderful beaches, which make it a tourist country par excellence. This is why there are many fence promotion ideas for Egypt Day tours, and among the innovative ideas is holding a marathon for the deaf and hard of hearing to stimulate tourism.

Yesterday morning, on Friday, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Marathon was inaugurated in celebration of the International Day of the Deaf, observed annually on September 17. The primary objective of this marathon is to foster the integration of individuals with disabilities, specifically the deaf and hard of hearing, into society. Simultaneously, it serves as a means to promote Egypt trips and highlight the archaeological sites that the marathon route encompasses. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, provided its support and endorsement for this event.

The marathon started in several Egyptian governorates, with 500 Rotary members and people with special abilities, including the deaf and hard of hearing, from Cairo Governorate and 50 others from the rest of the governorates participating to cover a distance of 4 km in each marathon.

A series of marathons were initiated across different countries, including Mauritania, Nigeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

Iman Abdel Rahman, Director General of the General Administration of Tourism Awareness at the Egyptian General Authority for Egypt Classic Tours Promotion, explained that the authority’s sponsorship of this marathon comes within the framework of its interest in people of determination and their integration into society and in activities and events that are concerned with accessible tourism, in addition to its interest in sponsoring events and activities that contribute to shedding light on the components of the diverse tourism and archaeological sites that the Egyptian travel packages enjoy, pointing out that the marathon will pass through tourist and archaeological sites in the various Egyptian governorates.

The marathon events included a diverse range of artistic performances alongside exhibitions showcasing products designed for individuals with disabilities, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Moreover, prizes were awarded to the victorious participants in recognition of their achievements during the marathon.
