A replica of the Karnak Kings List was installed in the Akhmenu Temple within the Karnak Temples yesterday.
Yesterday, the Karnak Temples in the city of Luxor in Egypt witnessed the installation of a replica of the Karnak Kings List, which is considered one of the most important sources of ancient history of Egypt and mentions the names of the great kings ofEgypt and their order, along with the lists of Abydos and Sakkara, the Palermo Stone, and the Turin Papyrus.
This comes within the framework of the keenness of the
Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Supreme
Council of Antiquities, to develop archaeological sites and museums in various
Egyptian governorates to increase Egypt tours and
improve the tourist experience, especially in conjunction with the start of the
winter tourist season.
Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme
Council of Antiquities, explained that the reproduction of the Karnak Kings
List, which was installed yesterday, is one of the important projects that have
been worked on during the last period, given the historical importance of the
list, which is currently on display in the Louvre Museum in the French capital,
Paris, since it was moved in 1843 from the Temple of Akhmenu in Karnak, noting
that the copy of this list was installed in the same place as the original in
the Karnak Temple, and it is an exact model of the
original list. It was made in the Ministry’s treasures factory for
archaeological reproductions, and the work on copying it took approximately
three months.
Dr. Mustafa Waziri pointed out that re-installing this
copy from the list will greatly contribute to familiarizing visitors to the
Karnak Temples during their Egypt day tours with
ancient Egyptian history, the ancient Egyptian civilization, and the names of
its great kings.
For his part, Dr. Fathi Yassin, Director General of
Antiquities of Upper Egypt, said that the Karnak List was built by King Thutmose III to mention the names of his ancestors, as it contains 61
king names from the kings of ancient Egypt, beginning with the name of King Sneferu, founder
of the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom and
father of King Khufu, owner of the largest pyramid in
Giza, and ending in the name of King Tuthmosis III of the
Eighteenth Dynasty of the New Kingdom of Egypt.
